Original 11th Doctor items on eBay -
September 2015

This unusual item turned up on eBay this month, being auction for charity.

Matt Smith TARDIS sign
This is a very rare item, a genuine TARDIS door sign, used during the filming of Series 5 of Doctor Who, the first to feature Matt Smith as the Doctor. The sign, having been used for filming was damaged en route to a filming location and was then replaced. The damage is apparent. One corner has broken off altogether (although is present and has been reattached by plastic film applied to the rear of the sign). Some of the letters have also come adrift and are missing.

The photographs show the worst of the damage.
The discarded sign was rescued by Tristan Peatfield, who worked as Stand-by Art Director and then Production Designer on that series (between the departure of Ed Thomas and the arrival of Michael Pickwoad).

I am selling it on Tristan's behalf, in aid of the charity that he and his partner Kim established in the name of their daughter Isabella, who was the youngest British victim of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami disaster.

The Isabella Peatfield fund raises money to support children's projects in Sri Lanka, where Isabella died. http://www.isabellapeatfield.com/

Questions and answers about this item
Q: I would like to know if there will be a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or some other documentation illustrating the authenticity and history of the "DOCTOR WHO GENUINE ON-SCREEN USED TARDIS SIGN SERIES 5 (MATT SMITH) included with the item? Thank you.
A: I can arrange for this if needed.

Q: Hello, I was curious, do you know what episodes, specifically, this sign was seen in or could have been seen in? I understand it was Series 5, Matt Smith's first season, and with the range of assistants you listed it could have been anything before the Christmas special, but I was wondering if you could help me narrow that down. If not, that is perfectly fine. It's a wonderful item either way, but I was considering bidding on it as a gift for someone and it would be better if I could at least give an episode, a range of episodes, or say "this is the sign from most of Series 5" if that is indeed the case. Thank you.
A: Hi, I have asked Tristan this very question, but I'm afraid he just doesn't remember. It will have been earlier rather than later in Series 5, I believe.

All Saints layer boots on eBay

I spied a pair of genuine All Saint layer boots on eBay this week.

Although many pairs have changed hands down the years, they have been becoming increasingly thin on the ground.

Grab them while you can!

All Saints Layer Boots - size 9
SOLD FOR £130

*EXTREMELY RARE* pair of used ALL SAINTS SPITALFIELDS 'LAYER BOOTS' as worn by 11th Doctor Matt Smith during DOCTOR WHO Series 5 (2010).

More details can be found at the excellent Making My 11th Doctor Costume blog here:
Making My 11th Doctor Costume: Boots - All Saints

Once word got out that these were identified to be the very pair worn by the Doctor, they quickly sold out at All Saints and have been pretty much scarce on the secondary market since.

This pair are size UK 9 / EU 43. Please make sure you know your size and read my description carefully.

Note: the 'worn in' look is part of the style on the boot. However, these boots are getting on for five years old! Whilst every attempt to maintain them has been made, nevertheless there is some very slight cracking to the leather on the right boot and the soles are a bit worn. I have tried to take pictures which accurately reflect the wear on the boots. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Thank you and good luck!

*Please be aware of your size as there are no returns accepted. Shoes are sold as-is. Thanks!

* WARNING* FAKE items on eBay

I’ve been in two minds about posting this, but I decided to do so as a warning to other to sometimes be wary of what you see for sale on eBay.

The two items I’m highlighting appeared this week, and raised some eyebrows on a number of forums and social media sites.
They are so obviously wrong to not take in the savvy costume fan, are named such and come with apparent verifying documentation to possibly take in the less observant buyer.

Anyway, I leave you to judge their authenticity for yourself, but for what it’s worth I have my own opinions.

All Saints layer boots - pair on eBay

Just to show these things do still happen, there was a pair of AllSaints layer boots on eBay this week, though despite their 99p starting price, it looks like someone did an off-listing deal.

ORIGINAL 11th Doctor items on eBay

Aside from the Ray Holman presentation costume design just over a month ago, there hasn’t really been many original Eleventh Doctor era items on eBay worth talking about.

However, there is one VERY nice and unique item for sale, with proceeds going to a good cause.

I’m left thinking Journey Of Impossible Things....

Doctor Who Series 5
Production Designer’s Personal Note-Book

The personal note-book used by TRISTAN PEATFIELD, who was Production Designer on Series 5 of Doctor Who (2010), between the departure of Ed Thomas and the arrival of Michael Pickwoad.

A 14cm x 21cm black covered "Guildhall" notebook, it contains notes on a number of productions on which Tristan worked (most of which I cannot identify), including at least 13 pages dedicated to Doctor Who and in particular to the episode The Lodger.

This includes text, designs and drawings in pencil by Tristan and his colleague Peter McKinstry, the best of which is probably the original design for the "Lodger TARDIS" console and "Amy Pond, TARDIS Pilot" (see photos).

This is an absolutely unique, one-off, used on-set item, which I am selling on behalf of Tristan for the benefit of The Isabella Peatfield Memorial Fund, which raises money for children's projects in Sri Lanka. Tristan's daughter Isabella died in the country on Boxing Day 2004, the youngest British victim of the Indian Ocean Tsunami. http://www.isabellapeatfield.co.uk/

Nightmare In Silver
Hedewicks Map
This is a map of "Hedgewicks World Of Adventure" which featured in Doctor Who series 7B episode 7 "Nightmare In Silver" written by Neil Gaimen, this episode starred Matt Smith (The Doctor) Jenna-Louise Coleman (Clara Oswald) Warwick Davis (Porridge) Tazmin Outhwaite (Captain Alice) this highly detailed map was used to show which areas of the theme park would be safe if there were to be a Cyberman attack, its features "Natty Longshoes Comical Castle" which is the castle Clara, Captain Alice and other members of the punishment platoon were based while Cybermen attacked.

This is a beautiful map which is highly detailed and would be perfect for any Doctor Who fan, this map also features a detailed drawing of "Spacey Zoomer Ride" which was the ride that Angie and Arty (Clara's children she was looking after) rode on.

This map beautifully illustrates every corner of the theme park and would be perfect for anyone who loves Doctor Who.

All Saints Layer Boots on eBay

Can’t say I’ve seen many of the original All Saints Layer Boots on eBay for a while, so I thought these worth flagging up if anyone needs a pair of size 11s!
Their price, £250, is very much on the upper limit of what I’ve seen them go for - but demand dictates I suppose.

All Saints Layer Boots
These are the boots worn by Matt Smith in Series 5 of Doctor Who, and are now the holy grail of Doctor Who cosplay.

Since going of the shelves in store they have become almost impossible to find, which has also made them more valuable.

I’d love to be wearing them myself but they are way too big for me.

“Original” Matt Smith costume design -
on eBay!

I came across this item on eBay this week.

It’s a curious one, and I can’t vouch for it’s authenticity. The story behind it is explained in the listing’s text (below).
The item closed early - probably after a buyer made a direct offer - so we’ll never know how much it truly sold for, but here are the details as it stood.

Doctor Who Matt Smith
Costume Design
SOLD FOR £1,250

This is a super rare item from the new series of Doctor Who, starring Matt Smith. This is one of three costume designs (a giclee copy) of the 11th Doctor beautifully framed and presented, including swatches of costume material/fabric (see photos).

The BBC owns the other two versions (one is with Ray Holman, the designer, and the other is probably with Matt Smith). The designer, Ray Holman, gifted this third design to producer Tracie Simpson and on the back of the frame there is a message from him, to her (see photo).

At the time of purchase, this was the only item from the new series that had the authority of the BBC to be sold and this is extremely rare – it is the only costume design in the public domain. A picture was included in a special edition of the SFX magazine in an exclusive interview with Ray Holman.

The Buy It Now price for this item is NOW JUST £1250 (with free postage and packaging), which is excellent value considering the fantastic condition of the item (it also comes from a smoke and pet-free home), the rarity of the item (1 of 3 and the only one in the public domain), the story behind the gifting of it to Tracie Simpson as well as the fact the show celebrates its 50th Anniversary later this year!

This would make a unique addition to any Doctor Who collection, and would look great hung on a wall, in its beautifully presented frame. Furthermore, original Dr Who 'doctor' costume designs are very very rare!

eBay Layer Boots

Just to show these things do happen, a friend of mine spotted a pair of genuine All Saints Layer Boots on eBay!

However, after the listing be online for a few days it was suddenly closed with a Buy It Now.
me thinks someone did an off-eBay deal. I wonder who? (clue - it wasn’t me)

All Saints Layer Boot UK Size 9, EU 43
This is an amazing pair of used All Saints boots in a size 9, I love these shoes. They work well with any outfit, you can wear it with just about anything, casual or smart and it looks great! It's also in very good condition as I bought 2 at the time and rotated between them. There is evidence of general wear and tear, and the inside heel is beginning to peel off on either foot (see picture), very few scratches here and there. In other words, you'll have to be looking really hard to notice any scruffs; the leather has been well looked after with frequent polishing. I also have a half insole in, for extra comfort and support against long hours of wear.

All Saints retailed this at £165. I am starting the auction at 99p, so no matter how you slice this, you're starring at a great bargain. Good luck to all interested and any questions are more than welcomed.

Mini Doctors on eBay

I’ve had a number of emails lately from parents looking for Matt Smith costumes for their children.
Working as a bespoke tailor it isn’t possible for me to make such clothes cheaply. After all a child’s jacket still has two sleeves, a collar and lapels as well as the necessary pockets and detailing.

As an answer I have always pointed them to eBay in search of bargains.

Just to show what can be found, here are half a dozen items currently available, or recently closed.

This shows the price range of options available, so keep searching – they are out there.

The first of these is actually an officially licensed dressing up outfit from UK clothes retailer, Marks & Spencer.

All Saints Layer Boots - BACK IN STOCK*

* sort of

Shock of shocks – All Saints, the makers of the Layer boots as worn by Matt Smith in series five, have brought the style of boots back in stock!

The new boots are currently ONLY available through the US site.

All Saints US
Cropped Layer Boot

Don’t get too excited though. Firstly don’t forget Matt wore replicas of the boots; and these ones are called Cropped Layer Boots as they are one eyelet shorter at the top.

Here is a comparison between my own Layer Boots, and the new Cropped Layer Boots.

If you want to be picky, the soles are now a tan leather rather than black, but if you can overlook these couple of slight differences, they are probably worth getting.

Cut sleeves - but not entirely cut price!

One of my readers put my on to this.

I’ve seen a lot of original PS Paul Smith shirts on eBay, some of which have been pretty unique with Striped Cuffs; Plain Cuffs; and even French Cuffs – but I’ve never seen one with NO cuffs! In fact NO SLEEVES - well, short sleeves.

It opened with a £14.99 starting price, and in the last couple of days leapt to £72.

An interesting curio on the Paul Smith shirt.

ULTIMATE Matt Smith costume - on eBay

This morning the jaw-dropping news that one of Matt Smith’s complete screen-worn costumes, including tweed jacket, shirt, trousers, boots, braces, watch and bow tie would be auctioned to raise funds for Children In Need!!!!

This is an unbelievable chance to acquire what is reap idly becoming an iconic costume.

Matt Smith has been quoted regarding the sale. He said:
I'd say the tweed jacket or the bow-tie are the most iconic - although the boots are my personal favourite. I hope people donate generously for BBC Children in Need because it's a wonderful cause - and we've got to beat last year's total.
Although the starting price was 99p, with only five days for the auction, things quickly accelerated into a frantic bidding war!

Here’s how things played out.
17th November 2011
Listing posted with a 99p start price.
After 13 bids, five bidders had reached £800.
